Prescription - a written request from a doctor to a pharmacist about the preparation and dispensing of medicines, which also contains instructions on how to use them. The recipe is made up according to a certain form and rules. A simple prescription is a prescription for one medicinal substance, a complex one if the medicine consists of two or more active substances. A prescription is a legal document, as it allows you to check the correctness of the manufacture of medicines.
It is necessary to distinguish between the concepts of "Prescription" and "Doctor's appointment". Many medicines are dispensed from pharmacies "by prescription", as indicated in their annotations. In this case, a prescription form is not required to buy a medicine at a pharmacy, just a note from a doctor or an extract from a medical history is enough.
The prescription forms themselves can be written out for the finished dosage form, or with an instruction to the pharmacy to prepare the dosage form extemporally. Currently, in Russia, extemporaneously prepare: powders, ointments, solutions for oral administration (mixtures), solutions for external use, nasal drops, eye drops (rarely), infusions (rarely), decoctions (rarely).
In the case of an extemporal prescription, the doctor must take into account the personal characteristics of the patient, the compatibility of ingredients and be guided by the requirements of the current legal enactments.
